Episode 27: Willow

Welcome back, noble heroes! Time for another edition in our series “In Search of Dungeons and Dragons”! Herein, forthwith (fifthwith even!) we shall chat up an epic saga about the 1988 fantasy film “Willow,” directed by Ron Howard, written by George Lucas, and starring Warwick Davis, the only person to play two separate characters in the “Harry Potter” movies.  Oh, and Val Kilmer’s in it too.  Join us as we ask the question: does the quest of the Nelwyn fledgling sorcerer capture the flavor of a D&D campaign? Follow the bird and find out!

  1. After leaving the Million Year Picnic, I ran a video store and we had a copy of Willow on VHS that rented really well. Moatly for Val Kilmer in a skirt though.

    1. And what better reason, right? There are a lot of folks that have fondness for this movie. Apparently Lucas isn’t one of them.

  2. I love this movie. I will always love this movie. Is it particularly good? No. Does it make a lot of sense? No. Do I care about either of those things with this movie? Nope!

I don’t get why it isn’t available either. I found a used DVD copy in a $5 bin a couple of years ago and grabbed it. I think I have it on laserdisc too. Of course, I don’t have a player anymore, but I’m hanging on to all of my discs. They’ll be a thing again some day! You’ll see!

    1. Really is remarkably hard to find. Except it’s available, in its entirety, on YouTube. How the heck does that wor?
