Episode 98: Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975)

Hello, good evening and welcome to another edition of “Max, Mike; Wombats,” the show where it’s not what you know that counts but rather how many navy beans you can fit inside this week’s special marsupial guest.  Today’s episode, another in our VERY POPULAR “A Few of Our Favorite Things” series, is brought to you by Whizzo Butter.  Four out of five housewives can’t tell Whizzo Butter from a dead crab, and neither will you, good evening.  As you may have gathered from this pithy banter (and the actual title of the podcast episode), we are ‘avin’ a little chat about one of my favorite bits of the cinema, “Monty Python and the Holy Grail,” a glittering and absolutely faithful recounting of the fabled Arthurian Legends.  This film is hailed by medievalists and literary scholars across my living room as one of the greatest and most caramel-filled interpretations of the so-called while you were out Grail Quest narrative ever created by any organization called Monty Python.  So turn down the volume so as not to wake up your Norwegian Blue (beautiful plumage), crack a tube with Bruce, Bruce, Mike and meself and enjoy our llama-rich podcast with the world’s first great taste of fish, oop, damn, you can edit that out, can’t you?

  1. This is one of the few films that has a French version so Robin and I could watch it together. He seemed to like it…
I believe I had an LP with a condensed version of the film on it sandlike everyone else, know it by heart. My brother has just watched it so much he can say the whole thing from start to finish.

    1. I know that album! Had the best parts, mostly, and some extra narration. It’s how we learned things without VHS or it being on TV. I can’t imagine this whole thing in French…

  2. Gadzooks and zounds! It’s been a month since this was posted and I only got to listen to it today. Due to a.)Reasons and b.)Stuff I’m behind on my listening. That’s why I’m so late in replying to the namecheck/callout/RFI in this episode.
But no matter: I can confirm from first-hand experience that the Swedish moose – pardon me, møøse – is indeed majestic. In 2008 I followed the advice from the subtitles and tried a holiday in Sweden. In Stockholm, I visited the zoo at the Skansen park where they of course had møøse on display. I couldn’t get too close, which is just as well because møøse bites Kan be pretti nasti.

    1. Very sensible; I hope you also refrained from carving your initials into the moose. I do hope you got a chance to enjoy the luvli lakes and the wonderful telephone system.

I saw a moose in the woods of Jackman, Maine once. At least I think it was a moose; it could have been an eighteen-wheeler with antlers. No land animal should be that big.
